Alcor, a Company That Cryopreserved Hal Finney, Now Accepts BCH

Some use cryptocurrency to travel around the world, others spend it on a trip to space. But thanks to cutting-edge technology the select few can spend their crypto wealth on a much more ambitious trip: a visit to the future.

The Alcor Life Extension Foundation, the world leader in cryonics, cryonics research, and cryonics technology, now accepts bitcoin cash donations for its cryonics research and operations in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Cryonics is an effort to save lives by using temperatures so cold that a person beyond help by today’s medicine can be preserved for decades or centuries until a future medical technology can restore that person to full health. That’s how Alcor explains the term.

The company is in part famous for cryopreserving Hal Finney(’s body) — one of the earliest Bitcoin adopters, its contributing developer, and a rumored person behind Sotshi Sakamoto’s identity. Hal had had cryopreservation arrangements with the Alcor Foundation for over 20 years before becoming their 128th patient at 58. His wife, Fran, also has arrangements for cryopreservation. They hope to see each other again sometime in the future, in healed and rejuvenated bodies.

At the time, Hal paid for his cryopreservation with his life insurance money and bitcoins donated by admirers, but had to convert them to fiat). Now, however, Alcor patients don’t have to convert cryptocurrency to fiat to pay for the company’s services.

Alcor was reportedly convinced to add BCH support by Bitcoin.com’s executive chairman Roger Ver after being convinced to add BTC support in 2014.

The cryogenic company now accepts cryptocurrency payments in ETH, LTC, BCH, and BTC. Other cryptocurrencies can be supported, too. “If you don’t see your preferred cryptocurrency in the list below you can contact us and we can probably provide you with a wallet address,” Alcor’s crypto donation page details.

Cryptocurrency and cryogenics may seem distant from each other, but in fact they share a common thread —innovation. That’s what brought Hal Finney to it. And this is why a number of other top-tier cryptocurrency advocates, among which a cryptocurrency magnate Robin Hanson and a world-renowned cryptographer Ralph Merkle, think highly of this technology and things like life extension, futurism, or the philosophy of extropy.

And organizations like Alcor and SENS Research similarly are drawn to digital currency — they believe it will revolutionize the world’s monetary system.
