Bay Area Non-Profit America SCORES Now Accepts Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum

America SCORES, a Bay Area non-profit promoting fair play, self-expression, commitment, and teamwork of US youth, now accepts payments in cryptocurrencies.

To become an early cryptocurrency adopter, America SCORES has partnered with Totem Block, a blockchain technology and design firm, and BitPay, the largest global blockchain payment provider.

Through a combination of soccer, poetry, and service learning, their unique after-school program helps combat illiteracy and obesity in US youth and develop the skills necessary to lead successful lives outside the classroom. Since its inception over 25 years ago, America SCORES program has impacted over 130,000 kids across North America.

Though only 2% of all donations to charities in the US in 2018 were made in cryptocurrency, it amounts to billions of dollars.

The use of cryptocurrency increases transparency in donations to charities. Cryptocurrency can also provide a tax relief option and local end-of-year charitable giving opportunity for donors. But very few non-profits can accept cryptocurrency, and fewer still in the Bay Area, though it is the top location for cryptocurrency holders worldwide.

America SCORES decided to change this.

They launched a #GivingTuesday campaign through the end of the year where they accept digital currency gifts. When you donate to the campaign, you support your community’s future leaders through public education in low-income communities, contribute to their open-source technology project aimed to increase transparency across all parts of the nonprofit, and promote crypto adoption.

According to the blog post, with the blockchain technology, the donor knows exactly where the donation is going, because they can see the digital fingerprint attached to a transaction marked where America SCORES spends it.

Currently, you can donate in Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, and Ethereum. If you want to donate in another coin, please contact Colin Schmidt for information on this process at cschmidt@americascores.org.

Cryptocurrency donations set America SCORES on course to move ahead in both data privacy for the students and impact-transparency for the donors.
