Esports betting and cryptocurrency have long been tied closely together. Dozens of platforms already allow for deposits in BTC, ETH, and other coins. But one betting platform, Unikrn, went further than others and became arguably the most accessible crypto betting platform out there.
A while back, Unikrn announced a partnership with Bittrex to enable deposits in Bitcoin, Ethereum, TRON, and other cryptocurrencies. The full list of cryptocurrencies accepted by Unikrn are: Bitcoin (BTC), Dogecoin (DOGE), Ethereum (ETH), Tron (TRX), Ethereum Classic (ETC), Litecoin (LTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Monero (XMR), DASH, and Unikoin Gold (UKG).
Unikrn will automatically convert cryptocurrency deposits to Unikoin Gold (UKG), their native cryptocurrency for wagering (among other things) on the platform, allowing players to deposit in their chosen coin without the need to purchase UKG at an exchange beforehand. But if a user wants get crypto back to their exchange of choice, Unikrn wallet will automatically convert UnikoinGold back to the last used cryptocurrency.
By adding so many currencies to the platform, they say, they have unlocked “actual utility for cryptocurrency fans who, to date, have struggled to find real-world applications.”
Bill Shihara of Bittrex International commented in a similar vein: “Platforms like Unikrn are leading the way for a future where you don’t just buy cryptocurrency, you use it for anything you want to do. As a Bittrex Enterprise Wallet customer, they can give their users secure access to hundreds of cryptocurrencies without needing to build their own wallet infrastructure.”
Recently, Unikrn has partnered with ZED RUN, a horse racing game, to bring horse betting to the ethereum blockchain and in this way, bring together two audiences – esports fans and horse bettors – onto one platform. The game relies on the non-fungible token (NFT) standard first made famous by Dapper Labs’ CryptoKitties. Only 38,000 horses will ever be created on ZED – although users can breed horses from their own stables.
Launched in 2014, Unikrn subsequently raised $10 million from Binary Capital, Ashton Kutcher, and Mark Cuban, among others. To date, Unikrn has four million users across its various products with an average of 160,000 gamblers who can use either crypto or cash.
