Guardium is building a global decentralized emergency grid

Guardian Circle team has a vision of a global decentralized emergency grid where users can send emergency calls through mobile, voice, and wearable devices to flash-organize protection and without government involvement.

Guardian Circle’s new, and decentralized since recent, app allows users to send out a distress call in situations when a call to a government emergency service is not a good option. The app may be useful in situations when you aren’t worried enough to call the police, but do want to reach out to a friend or family and say “something’s not right with me” or “Someone is following me.”

On March 2nd, 2018, Guardian Circle announced that they will be switching to the NEO platform. The dApp will use blockchain technology provided by the NEO platform.

The team has recently joined the cryptocurrency movement and launched a Guardium token – an NEP-5 token – on the NEO ecosystem, in March this year.

They chose NEO for “its technical merits” after originally considering “a bespoke fork of Litecoin,” Chris Hayes, founder & CTO of Guardian Circle, writes on a company’s blog. Congestion and slow transactions on existing networks, such as Ethereum, poses a large risk for an emergency response application which needs to be instantaneous.

The app utilizes the NEON wallet, developed by City of Zion, natively supporting NEP-5 tokens.

The app

As we were able to gather, the multiple-award winning app has been around for some time before the Guardium token’s launch. It was pretty much like any normal iOS/Android app before the team set out to transform it into a decentralized app (dApp) and tokenize it.

The mobile app utilizes peer-to-peer (soon blockchain) technology to connect family members and friends and offers a private communication platform. A user can quickly send an alert with varying degrees of urgency.

Progress and plans

Guardian Circle is currently available for download on iPhone and iPad, Android, and Amazon ALEXA. The app is free to download and use, and it’s possible to upgrade to a “gold” plan for $99 per year, which will include “alert room operators” for emergencies.

The team is currently running a NEP-5 token pre-sale.

The crowd sale opens on March 20th. 100 mln. tokens will be issued, with 30% available for sale. All users whishing to purchase tokes must complete a pre-sale whitelist process at http://guardium.co/#presaleForm. All tokens will be delivered by May 20th 2018.

For August 2018, the team planed a beta release of apps with Guardium Protection Contracts, with a final release in December 2018.
